Background

Ibuki Weitschall is Ebonvale Academy’s official announcer, a title she wears with unwavering pride and unnecessary theatrics. While she was never a particularly strong mage or an exceptional scholar, she found her calling early—her voice would be the loudest in the academy, whether people liked it or not.

As a student, she served on the student council as the academy’s announcer, a job she took far more seriously than her actual studies. While other students trained in offensive magic or refined elemental spells, Ibuki spent her time developing a communication network, placing mana marks on students to deliver announcements directly into their minds. She barely met academic requirements, but her ability was too useful to ignore, and her over-the-top delivery made sure no one could ever claim they “missed an announcement.”

Upon graduating, Ibuki was offered a permanent role at Ebonvale, an unprecedented position that removed the burden of announcements from the student council. Now, every student’s emblem is inscribed with her mana mark, ensuring that no one escapes her voice—whether it’s an important message, a dramatic retelling of cafeteria menu changes, or an impromptu declaration of her “eternal rule over Ebonvale.”

Most of the staff sigh at her antics, exhausted by her constant embellishments, yet they can’t deny that her work is efficient and invaluable. Meanwhile, the students love her, finding entertainment in her dramatic proclamations and signature chuunibyo flair. Whether she calls herself “Ebonvale’s Announcer from the Abyss,” “The One Who Speaks Too Much,” or “Ebonvale’s True Overlord,” one thing remains certain—Ibuki’s voice will always be heard.

Mana Mark Communication: Ibuki’s Mana Mark Communication is a technique she developed entirely on her own, refining it over years of trial and error. Struggling with traditional magic studies, she focused instead on experimenting with mana in unconventional ways. Her marks were unstable in the beginning, fading too quickly or interfering with each other, forcing her to spend years testing them on students and adjusting their structure until she perfected them. Now, her marks function as a relay system, allowing her to send messages directly into the minds of individuals or groups with unmatched efficiency.

Each student’s emblem carries one of her marks, ensuring that announcements reach everyone without disruption. The marks naturally fade over time, but those who bear them can recharge them with a small amount of mana, making them nearly self-sustaining. While the marks allow for two-way communication, Ibuki remains in control—only she can initiate a conversation, meaning students must ping her first and wait for a response if they wish to speak with her.

Null Magic Visual Projections: Although Ibuki never studied Null Magic seriously, she developed a way to incorporate it into her communication system, allowing her to project maps, schedules, and visual effects through her marks. This ability was something she discovered through pure instinct, treating Null Magic more like a tool for artistic expression rather than combat.
